The Power of Appreciation!

Every research done at the workplace reveals that appreciation is something everyone irrespective of their position in the company looks forward to. Despite appreciation cited as a major contributor to accelerate efficiency and productivity, it is somehow overlooked. However, true leaders recognize the value of appreciation and use every opportunity to thank people and teams who contribute to overall success, despite how small or big the contribution is.

Such an example of appreciation came to the fore last Friday when President Obama honored Vice President Joe Biden with the decorated Presidential Medal of Freedom. Personally to me the key take away from the moment was except the boss(Obama) and some in close circles, no one would have probably known Joe Biden’s work better. It could have went unnoticed if the President as a true leader had not ensured Joe Biden’s efforts were recognized with the nation’s highest honor.

“For your faith in your fellow Americans, for your love of country and for your lifetime of service that will endure through the generations”, “This is the kind of family that built this country. That’s why my family is honored to call ourselves honorary Bidens.” said Obama, heaping praises on Biden and his family.

As I watched the proceedings, I was reminded of Dale Carnegie, who said, “Be hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise,” 80 years back.
